Where Faith Meets Fiction...
What does faith have to do with fiction? Well, if faith gets into the nooks and crannies of life, then it should effect what I read and how I write.
I am a reader too. I want to read adventures and fantasies and mysteries. I don't want characters to be perfect, because that's not real life! I just like to read stories where people are striving to overcome their flaws, not revel in them!
So, here’s my line in the sand, my personal little manifesto: As an author I’m going to do my best to tell a great story. To have characters that struggle to live out their faith or wrestle against their lack of it. I love a good redemption, but I am not going to drag you through teen drinking, infidelity, and treating your family like snot. I will avoid being preachy because more is caught than taught. My stories have heroes. They have villains. They have triumphs & failures, dangers & hope, darkness and light. I want my readers to be able to go into my stories knowing that my faith bleeds into everything I do, including my fiction.
You may not agree. I will be too Christian for some of you and not Christian enough for others. That’s okay. But for those of you who hear what I’m saying, I hope you can get to know and trust me as an author. That, for me, is Where Faith Meets Fiction.
