"Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return." -Leonardo da Vinci One of my goals as a parent is to expose my kids to a variety of opportunities so that they can decide what they want to do with their life. There are so many amazing jobs out there (and many of them do not require a college degree)... My sons recently got to participate in the Young Eagles Program and explore the world of private planes.
What is Young Eagles? That’s what I was wondering when my mother handed me the flyer. In a nutshell, Young Eagles is a nation-wide group of pilots and small planes that want to give kids their first flight experience. Over 2 million kids have flown with Young Eagles. Kids sign up, show up, listen up, and fly up. For free. Seriously. My sons were given their own pilot. He was donating his time and his plane. The guy was kid-friendly. He answered their many, many questions. What’s this? What’s that? It was really, really cool. While I waited on the ground, the pilot in charge told me that fewer and fewer kids dream of flying because all the airports are chained off. Young Eagles gives them a chance to go beyond the chain link fence and possibly develop an interest in becoming career pilots. The program even helps those interested with getting lessons and pilot licenses. They have scholarships available. If your kid is 8 to 17, I challenge you to check out the Young Eagles. It’s free. It’s educational. It’s outside. It’s amazing. 2/8/2017 12:59:23 am
Wow! It was a great read. Yes, I agree with you that every kid has a dream of what he wants to be when he grows up, even I had. With the amazing access to technology we now have, we can make sure that wish come true for our kids. We can plan to record our kids dreams and goals regularly and keep them alive for the future.
