Organized Homemaking : Planning Day

2/6/2017

SAHM life is full of distractions. Take control of your homemaking with a Planning Day.
Do you ever feel like a flip-flop that's fallen into the sea? You know, like you're tossed around by every little wind and wave that comes your way?

If so, set aside a day to get some planning done. Not once a year, or once a month, but once a week.

Trust me, you will get much, much more done during the rest of your week if you can do all those tasks that require a little more thinking and focus on one day...
“The duty of planning tomorrow's work is today's duty; though its material is borrowed from the future, the duty, like all duties, is in the Present.” -C.S. Lewis (The Screwtape Letters)

Ideas to Get Your Planning Day Started:

  • Menu Planning
  • Grocery List (my husband and I lovethis free app)
  • Bill Paying & Finances
  • School Plans (reviews, kid assignments, collecting stuff for your portfolio if you need one, field trip ideas, etc.)
  • Check Your Library Account Status (renew any books that you need to!)
  • Calendar (check for upcoming appointments, events, birthdays, etc.)
  • Phone Calls (You know that annoying call you have to make to whichever company you've been putting off? Put it on your Planning Day... No more excuses! (I'm talking to myself here, lol))

Ahem...

The trouble with planning is that you can go on planning and planning, and never actually get to the doing.

Or, you can create amazing plans that you could never live up to in the real world of kid distractions that we live in!  That is almost always followed by a guilt trip, and guilt is not what we're going for, Mamas!
I just want to encourage you to keep your jobs for Planning Day do-able! The point of having a routine is creating a life that you can live with! You want to get things done and still have the flexibility to cherish your children and your husband and the people God puts in your path!
